Sandwich Bread

 

Today I would like to share plain old white bread that we found at Cooking with Da Cap’n. This bread is a good sandwich bread. This is the bread that I make most of the time.

5 to 5 1/2 cups regular old white flour

2 cups water-well water if you got it

2 tablespoons table sugar

2 tablespoons powdered skim milk

3 tablespoons lard or olive oil

2 teaspoons table salt

3 teaspoons dried yeast

Start with 2 cups of flour in bowl with other dried stuff-mix well, then  add water, then while mixing add more flour till you can’t mix easily anymore. Dump out onto floured surface and knead in the rest of flour. I usually knead about 5-8 min-then turn into greased bowl and flop dough over to grease other side. Let rise till your dough has grown to twice original size. Punch down to let out air-cut dough in half and form 2 loaves place loaves into 2 greased bread pans and let rise again till dough is about 2 inches over pan top. Bake in 375 degree oven and bake about 35-40 minutes. Turn out bread and cool on cooling racks. That’s it-slice after cool and eat. I do not keep powdered skim milk on hand so I use liquid whole milk.
